STEM Extension of Optional Practical Training
Certain F-1 students who receive science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degrees may apply for a 24-month extension of their post-completion optional practical training (OPT).
An F-1 student currently engaged in 12 months of post-completion OPT who has been awarded a degree in a STEM field as it is listed at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) approved STEM Designated Degree Program List and works for an E-Verify employer may be eligible to apply for the STEM extension.
